General Information

From a safari lodge in the treetops and Cape-Dutch style homestead on a working vineyard, to waterfront properties such as thatched villas on stilts or a boutique hotel in its own quay in Cape Town, each hotel we feature offers a unique experience.

Facilities

The hotels and lodges we feature are of a excellent standard and offer the best facilities for adults and children in each region. The majority have been rated four or five star. In South Africa many properties have also been graded by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa.

If you are looking for a hotel that provides a particular feature on site such as an award-winning restaurant, spa, golf course or riding stables, please see our Activities and Attractions pages.

Check-in/out times are generally in the region of 2-3 pm / 10-11 am. Please note that we cannot guarantee and early check-in/check-out to correspond with your overnight international flights. However, most hotels will store your luggage and invite you to continue using the facilities if a room isn't available.

Please note that whilst we will aim to provide you with the most up-to-date and accurate information, in periods of low occupancy a facility such as a swimming pool may close for reasons such as renovation.

Family

We appreciate that when you are travelling with children, you may require additional information to that traditionally found in a travel brochure. The hotel description pages on our website therefore provide details about room options most suitable for families, children's meals, facilities and also supervised activities/babysitting. Since we have personally visited every property (or our representatives in each country have done so with their families) we should also be able to answer any queries you may have.

Safety

We subscribe to the Argent Health and Safety Checkpoint system which represents an independent audit of each of the properties we feature.

With regards to safari lodges, we include information about safety issues, such as whether the camp is fenced. Please consider these carefully with regards to the age of your children.

Please note that the majority of properties do not fence their swimming pools and those in South Africa rarely provide life guards. We therefore recommend that you familiarise yourself with these on arrival, to check issues such as depth, as swimming will be at your own risk.

South African's have a wonderful saying, "It takes a village to raise a child" which reflects the warm welcome they will provide for your children. However, please note that childcare, especially in more remote areas, may simply be provided by a trusted member of staff whilst in city-based locations, a qualified childminder from a specialist agency is more likely to be employed.

Please note that the safety standards and requirements of all destinations featured may not be equivalent to those in the UK.

Responsible Tourism

We also provide information about the local community projects employed by each hotel or lodge.

We believe this knowledge will enrich your experience and encourage the tourism industry to continue sharing the benefits of your business at all levels of society.

Fair Trade in Tourism South AfricaWe also encourage you to consider booking one of the hotels we feature accredited by Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa.
